Before the lesson
Give page 1 to learners and retain the marked puzzle on page 2. Clarify nativity, manger and shepherd; the instructions allow words in any direction and ignore spaces and hyphens.
- Review the list aloud, including wise men, before searching. Demonstrate following a sequence of letters rather than circling isolated matches.
- Learners find and mark all fifteen targets, comparing difficult locations with a partner before checking the marked key.
- Separate people and places such as angel and Bethlehem from activities such as prayer and worship. Ask each learner to use two found words in a sentence or simple description.
Support and extension
Support by selecting fewer targets or giving a starting-letter location. Extend beyond locating letters to explaining meanings. Use a neutral cultural-learning approach; learners do not need to share or practise religious beliefs.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
