Before the lesson
Prepare page 1 and keep the full-sentence key for feedback. Review will have + past participle, not will have + simple past.
- Model finishing the report by Friday. Identify the later point from which the completed result is viewed.
- Complete the gaps, checking left, built, written, eaten and made as well as regular forms. Keep the existing present-tense time clauses unchanged.
- Compare with page 2 and discuss one deadline sentence's meaning. Distinguish completion by a time from an action occurring exactly then.
Support and extension
Support with a participle bank. Extend by describing what will have been completed before an imaginary trip; this is target-form practice rather than unrestricted tense selection.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
