Before the lesson
Use pages 1–2 and keep the teacher key on page 3 for feedback. Introduce unusual and unnecessary, checking meaning and pronunciation before the gap fill.
- Use unfair versus unusual to show that a negative prefix does not tell learners the whole meaning.
- Complete the eight sentences using each vocabulary word once. Compare choices with a partner and explain the context clues before checking the key.
- Discuss unfair rules, unfinished work and unreliable services, using a target adjective in each answer. Use the five printed questions for pair discussion and short notes; responses are individual, not fixed-key answers.
Support and extension
Support with base-word pairs such as fair / unfair; extend by describing a service problem without naming the target word.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
