Before the lesson
Give learners page 1 and use the suggested answers on page 2 after they have compared their own responses.
- Read the actor, competition and holiday-problem situations; decide whether enthusiasm or concern is appropriate.
- Write eight reactions, adding a question about the actor, language or unusual animal where helpful.
- Practise delivering a reaction naturally, then let the partner continue their story.
Support and extension
Provide reaction/question pairs. Extend by varying intonation; No way is informal and cheerful language should not minimise someone's problem.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
