Before the lesson
Use pages 1–2 and keep the teacher key on page 3 for feedback. Introduce happiness and friendliness, checking meaning and pronunciation before the gap fill.
- Compare kindness and friendliness in the welcome examples; notice happy → happiness and friendly → friendliness, while cleanliness needs special attention.
- Complete the eight sentences using each vocabulary word once. Compare choices with a partner and explain the context clues before checking the key.
- Discuss classroom kindness, public cleanliness and small sources of happiness. Use the five printed questions for pair discussion and short notes; responses are individual, not fixed-key answers.
Support and extension
Support with adjective-to-noun pairs. Accept an explained kindness / friendliness alternative where the sentence permits it, while using each word once; extend with a short description of a welcoming place.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
