Before the lesson
Use pages 1–2 and reserve page 3 for feedback. Begin with the printed warm-up and six vocabulary matches, focusing on permeable, reciprocity and safeguard.
- Compare vocabulary answers, then read for the central claim and reread the numbered paragraphs for supporting reasons and qualifications.
- Compare formal rules with managerial behaviour. Explain why uncertain employment can make apparently optional contact feel compulsory.
- Discuss urgency and flexibility, then plan the 220–260-word workplace or school policy with benefits, exceptions and protections from unfair pressure.
Support and extension
Support with a routine / urgent / safeguard policy outline. Accept accurate comprehension paraphrases; discussion and writing need reasoned individual responses. Extend by asking learners to test the proposed policy against an international team or an emergency scenario.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
