A simple way to teach it

Before the lesson

Agree the topic and demonstrate one relevant word beside its initial letter. This single-page template has no fixed answer key.

  1. Write the chosen topic at the top and clarify what counts as a suitable answer before learners start.
  2. Work individually on familiar letters, then compare with a partner for difficult ones. Check the first letter, spelling and relevance rather than insisting every letter has an easy word.
  3. Pool answers on the board and choose a few useful new words to explain and use in short sentences.

Support and extension

Support with pictures or a small word bank; permit blanks where no accessible word fits. Extend by choosing a narrower topic and comparing which letters become harder, keeping retrieval more important than filling every space.

Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
