Before the lesson
Use page 1 and keep the suggested answers on page 2 for feedback. Start with familiar examples such as apple, book and cat.
- Fill familiar letters first, then compare with a partner. The examples include people, objects and substances; rain is a noun too. Use capital X in X-ray and accept noun phrases such as ice cream.
- Review spelling, the initial letter and topic relevance. The answer key provides suggestions; other appropriate words or phrases are valid.
- Choose familiar answers and sort them into people, things and other nouns before making simple sentences.
Support and extension
Support with a picture bank; extend by comparing nouns with adjectives already known. Accept suitable nouns beyond the key.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
