A simple way to teach it

Before the lesson

Give page 1 to learners and retain the marked puzzle on page 2. Clarify bunny, pastel and bonnet; the instructions allow words in any direction and ignore spaces and hyphens.

  1. Review the list aloud, including bonnet, before searching. Demonstrate following a sequence of letters rather than circling isolated matches.
  2. Learners find and mark all fifteen targets, comparing difficult locations with a partner before checking the marked key.
  3. Classify objects, foods and activities, comparing hunt with decorate rather than treating every item as a noun. Ask each learner to use two found words in a sentence or simple description.

Support and extension

Support by selecting fewer targets or giving a starting-letter location. Extend beyond locating letters to explaining meanings. Learners can describe an imagined celebration; spring imagery reflects some regions rather than all places.

Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
