A simple way to teach it
Before the lesson
Print the puzzle on page 1 and retain the marked page 2. Check prayer, charity and celebrate before searching.
- Read the list and sort familiar words such as family and friends from new vocabulary.
- Search in any direction, marking whole letter sequences and checking against the answer puzzle.
- Use gift, sweets, meal and visit to describe an imagined celebration; distinguish the noun visit from the verb celebrate.
Support and extension
Offer a few target locations for support. Extend with a welcoming greeting or a sentence about charity. Do not imply that all families follow the same customs or require learners to share religious experiences.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
