A simple way to teach it

Before the lesson

Give learners page 1; use the suggested answers on page 2 after they have written and compared their own responses.

  1. Compare Would you be interested in plus -ing with would like to plus base verb.
  2. Write invitations for networking, presenting, an anniversary and a team visit, then the four responses.
  3. Act out an invitation to speak and check relevant event details before confirming acceptance.

Support and extension

Provide event/purpose/time notes. Extend by adjusting tone for a client versus a colleague. Accept suitable alternatives; a presentation invitation can involve work, so allow the recipient to ask about expectations or decline.

Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
