A simple way to teach it
Before the lesson
Give page 1 to learners and retain the marked puzzle on page 2. Clarify reunion, zodiac and dumpling; the instructions allow words in any direction and ignore spaces and hyphens.
- Review the list aloud, including red envelope, before searching. Demonstrate following a sequence of letters rather than circling isolated matches.
- Learners find and mark all fifteen targets, comparing difficult locations with a partner before checking the marked key.
- Group foods, decorations and calendar words, allowing learners to identify customs they know without assuming one shared tradition. Ask each learner to use two found words in a sentence or simple description.
Support and extension
Support by selecting fewer targets or giving a starting-letter location. Extend beyond locating letters to explaining meanings. Compare traditions as examples rather than claiming every community uses the same foods or gifts.
