A simple way to teach it
Before the lesson
Give page 1 to learners and retain the marked puzzle on page 2. Clarify gratitude, harvest and cranberry; the instructions allow words in any direction and ignore spaces and hyphens.
- Review the list aloud, including November, before searching. Demonstrate following a sequence of letters rather than circling isolated matches.
- Learners find and mark all fifteen targets, comparing difficult locations with a partner before checking the marked key.
- Separate meal words from feelings and activities, then connect gather with family and feast. Ask each learner to use two found words in a sentence or simple description.
Support and extension
Support by selecting fewer targets or giving a starting-letter location. Extend beyond locating letters to explaining meanings. The November cue reflects the US focus; do not present it as the date for every Thanksgiving observance. No personal gratitude disclosure is required.
