Before the lesson
Use pages 1–2 for learners and reserve page 3 for feedback. Begin with the printed warm-up and six-word matching task, focusing on access, facility and priority.
- Compare vocabulary choices, then read for the main idea before rereading the numbered paragraphs for detail.
- Locate the central idea and its limits: every street need not contain everything, and residents are not required to stay nearby.
- Rank possible local facilities, then plan the 120–150-word improvement paragraph around a problem, service and benefit.
Support and extension
Support with a simple fictional neighbourhood map. Accept accurate comprehension paraphrases; opinions need reasons, not the key's wording. Extend by asking learners to compare two areas with different service needs.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
