Before the lesson
Use the warm-up about repairing or replacing old things. Match prepare, local, solution, reduce, improve and responsible; reserve page 3 for feedback.
- Read the three numbered paragraphs for the main change or problem, then reread for the people, actions and results.
- Find the waste-reduction aim, local repair group's help, visitors' responsibility and what students learned.
- Discuss repairing, reusing and giving away, then plan the 80–100-word paragraph about an old item and justify the choice.
Support and extension
Support with item / choice / reason Rehearse answers in pairs before writing; accept accurate paraphrases and individual ideas. Extend by asking learners to describe a fictional item's problem clearly; this is language practice, not a repair workshop.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
