Before the lesson
Use page 1 and keep the suggested answers on page 2 for feedback. Start with familiar examples such as big, cold and happy.
- Fill familiar letters first, then compare with a partner. X may be left blank. Ask learners to use each chosen word to describe something so they check its function, not only its spelling.
- Review spelling, the initial letter and topic relevance. The answer key provides suggestions; other appropriate words or phrases are valid.
- Choose contrasting adjectives such as quiet / noisy or big / small and use them in short descriptions.
Support and extension
Support with picture contrasts and sentence frames; extend by describing the same place with several adjectives. Avoid personal labels such as ugly when discussing classmates.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
