Before the lesson
Use both pages with private passenger/clerk cards. Preview direct, connection, fare difference and single/return.
- Read the Oxford and delayed-connection models, noticing how staff check the ticket before explaining what is allowed.
- Role-play the Bristol arrival-time trade-off, a Friday ticket change and a missed booked train; ask about the full cost before agreeing.
- Summarise the chosen journey and restrictions, swap roles and repeat with a new priority.
Support and extension
Support with a departure/arrival/price table. Extend by explaining why the cheapest option may not meet the deadline; the fictional Friday morning change adds £13. Do not present these conditions as real railway rules.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
