Before the lesson
Use page 1 for learners and page 2 for checking. Preview float, crowd and costume.
- Read the twelve sentences and identify definition clues such as a decorated vehicle and a large group watching.
- Complete the use-once bank, explaining why float differs from parade and mask from costume.
- Discuss wearing costumes, exciting parades and feelings about crowds, then describe a fictional Carnival scene.
Support and extension
Support with a labelled parade sketch or noun/verb sorting. Extend by explaining how a dance can tell a story. Check meaning and the whole-bank constraint, not just whether a word seems possible in one blank.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
