Before the lesson
Give learners page 1 and keep the suggested answers on page 2. Preview haunted, skeleton and trick-or-treating and explain that each bank item is used once.
- Complete the animal and object definitions before the event sentences; notice haunted is an adjective and trick-or-treating names an activity.
- Compare the suggested ghost/witch answers: those two story-character sentences can sensibly be swapped while using each word once.
- Discuss a possible costume or whether scary stories are enjoyable, with a non-scary alternative available.
Support and extension
Support with meaning groups and spelling of trick-or-treating. Extend by describing a fictional party. Accept the ghost/witch swap; do not require interest in Halloween.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
