Before the lesson
Use page 1 and keep the suggested answers on page 2 for feedback. Start with familiar examples such as Australia, Brazil and Canada.
- Fill familiar letters first, then compare with a partner. Use English names and capital letters; X may be left blank. Wales is a country within the UK, so the list is not exclusively independent states.
- Review spelling, the initial letter and topic relevance. The answer key provides suggestions; other appropriate words or phrases are valid.
- Compare places learners know and practise I'm from ... without turning the activity into a geography test.
Support and extension
Support with a map and a partial list; extend by comparing an English country name with its name in another language. Accept suitable alternatives.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
