Before the lesson
Reserve page 2 for feedback. A short review of enjoy + -ing and decide + to-infinitive prepares learners for the controlled task.
- Read whole sentences before filling gaps; compare stopping an activity with stopping in order to have coffee.
- Work through the twenty items, highlighting clues such as years ago, before you leave, and but I could not.
- Check ordinary verb patterns and explain remember, try and regret choices. Item 11 also allows to restart for an attempt, as the key notes, rather than only restarting as a tried solution.
Support and extension
Support with the reference lists and a small set of paired meanings. Extend by changing a context so a different form becomes appropriate and explaining the resulting meaning.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
