Before the lesson
Use both pages. Read the two model conversations before distributing the paired role cards; partners should see only their own instructions.
- Compare the jacket exchange and broken-backpack models: which preferences can each customer change?
- Role-play the urgent jacket exchange, backpack return and headphone gift, asking about budget and purpose before recommending anything.
- Summarise the chosen item, extra cost and any compromise; accepting a refund or making no purchase can be a successful outcome.
Support and extension
Allow keyword notes and the phrase bank, not a full script. Swap roles and change one constraint for a second round. Judge clarity and the agreed next step, not one prescribed dialogue; the service conditions are fictional.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
