Before the lesson
Give learners page 1 and keep the suggested answers on page 2. Preview effigy, torch and display and explain that each bank item is used once.
- Solve the definitions of bonfire, sparkler, rocket and crowd, then complete Bonfire Night and firework display.
- Check Britain and November using the information given in the worksheet, then distinguish safety from tradition and warm.
- Discuss a public display or a nighttime tradition; keep the safety discussion general and do not demonstrate fireworks.
Support and extension
Support with event vocabulary groups. Extend by describing an imagined organised event. The key is suggested; accept another bank allocation only if meaning and the use-once rule both work.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
