Before the lesson
Distribute pages 1–2 and retain page 3. Preview dedication, miracle, menorah and perseverance.
- Match the vocabulary, then identify what the festival commemorates and what its name means.
- Read the oil story as a religious tradition and trace its connection to candles and food cooked in oil. Check all five comprehension answers.
- Discuss ways stories are remembered and plan the 120–150-word homework about an object, food or activity that recalls a cultural story.
Support and extension
Use a simple eight-night sequence for support without performing a ritual. Extend with distinctions between the historical setting and the story described in the tradition. Accept article-supported paraphrases.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
