Before the lesson
Give learners page 1 and keep the suggested answers on page 2. Preview menorah, dreidel, gelt and latke and explain that each bank item is used once.
- Solve the object and food clues, then complete eight nights, oil and the extra candle on each successive night.
- Check Festival of Lights and the Jerusalem reference; broad festival/holiday/celebration contexts may allow a different coherent bank allocation.
- Choose a discussion question about symbolic objects, lights or learning about other traditions; personal religious details are optional.
Support and extension
Support with a small illustrated word bank. Extend by describing a game or celebration object. Treat the suggested key as one valid allocation and check alternatives against the whole use-once task.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
