Before the lesson
Give learners page 1 and keep the suggested answers on page 2. Preview lunisolar calendar, reunion and zodiac and explain that each bank item is used once.
- Use the specific clues for red envelope, dragon dance, zodiac and dumpling before completing broader celebration sentences.
- Check the China-specific Spring Festival name and the phrases family reunion and long noodles; do not assume every community follows those customs.
- Discuss new-year foods or symbolic gifts from a tradition learners know, allowing an observed rather than personal example.
Support and extension
Support by separating food, objects and calendar words. Extend by comparing two celebration examples respectfully. Preserve the qualifiers some traditions and some places when explaining the sentences.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
