Before the lesson
Use the single-page speaking sheet; it has useful follow-ups but no fixed answer key. Let learners choose comfortable or fictional details.
- Model a duration answer with for or since, followed by When did you start? to move from duration to a finished past event.
- Partners take turns asking about home, English learning, recent actions, unfinished tasks, travel and food. Ask for one detail rather than isolated yes/no responses.
- Use Really?, Why?, Who with? and What happened next? from the sheet. Give feedback on present-perfect forms and relevant past-simple follow-ups after a short exchange.
Support and extension
Support with I have… for/since… and a participle bank. Extend by changing partners and summarising one willingly shared answer; do not require sensitive personal information.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
