Before the lesson
Use the word box and keep page 2 separate. Words can be used repeatedly; this is not a one-use matching puzzle.
- Group life experience, completion by now, recent time and continuing negatives before attempting the gaps.
- Read the surrounding clues and word position, then compare choices for the whale, hotel, late bus and unanswered message contexts.
- Check suggested answers, accepting context-appropriate alternatives. The key allows recently/lately in several items, already in 16 and never in 15; explain the changed emphasis rather than treating every gap as unique.
Support and extension
Support with the time-word reference. Extend by rewriting one sentence with a different suitable word and describing how the meaning changes.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
