Before the lesson
Use pages 1–2 and keep the key separate. Preview harvest, feast, ancestor and perspective.
- Match the vocabulary, checking the difference between gratitude and gathering together.
- Read for what the US and Canada share and what differs; answer the five questions with evidence rather than assuming one date or menu.
- Discuss food, gratitude and complicated histories, then prepare the 120–150-word homework about a meal or celebration that brings people together.
Support and extension
Allow a fictional meal instead of personal family details. Extend by separating current customs from historical perspectives. Accept different views respectfully; the article does not describe one universal Thanksgiving experience.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
