Before the lesson
Give learners the unlabelled face on page 1 and keep page 2 for checking. Preview hair, eye, nose and mouth by pointing to the illustration.
- Learners label the arrows with words they already know; use the drawing rather than comparing classmates' appearances.
- Reveal the visual dictionary and check forehead, eyebrow, cheek, chin, jaw and neck as well as the familiar features.
- Cover the labels and ask partners to point to a named feature, then reverse the roles.
Support and extension
Support with selected words from page 2 or a first-letter hint. Extend with singular/plural forms such as eye/eyes and lip/lips; the diagram uses lips. Do not turn the activity into judgments about appearance.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
