Before the lesson
Use page 1 and keep the suggested answers on page 2 for feedback. Start with familiar examples such as book, pencil and ruler.
- Fill familiar letters first, then compare with a partner. The category includes people and places as well as objects: teacher and library fit. Xylophone is a possible X answer, not an item every school must have.
- Review spelling, the initial letter and topic relevance. The answer key provides suggestions; other appropriate words or phrases are valid.
- Select several answers and say where they are found or what learners use them for.
Support and extension
Support with a classroom picture; extend by comparing two imagined schools. Accept suitable alternatives and allow difficult letters to remain unfinished.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
