A simple way to teach it

Before the lesson

Keep the page-3 key separate. Use the meeting friends outdoors warm-up, then match visit, early, busy, choose, helpful and enjoy on page 1.

  1. Read the three numbered paragraphs together, checking who and where before asking learners to find details independently.
  2. Locate Friday after work, juice and sandwiches, the park worker and the rubbish bin in the four comprehension answers.
  3. Use the picnic discussion to plan the 60–80-word invitation, including where and when to meet and what to bring.

Support and extension

Support with Please come to… Bring… Allow oral rehearsal before writing and accept accurate paraphrases of the key. Extend by asking pairs to have a partner check whether the invitation contains all meeting details.

Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
