Before the lesson
Keep the page-3 key separate. Use the gardening warm-up, then match visit, early, busy, choose, helpful and enjoy on page 1.
- Read the three numbered paragraphs together, checking who and where before asking learners to find details independently.
- Find the garden's location, visit time, school worker and what students enjoy; distinguish her role from the teacher's help choosing plants.
- Discuss what to grow, then plan the 60–80-word paragraph about a plant, flower or food, where to grow it and why.
Support and extension
Support with I would like to grow… in… Allow oral rehearsal before writing and accept accurate paraphrases of the key. Extend by asking pairs to choose two possible plants and explain a preference.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
