Before the lesson
Use the single learner page in pairs. Personal or invented responses can vary; there is no fixed answer key.
- Trace the wrong-train story: answering a message, not checking and rushing before boarding.
- Answer the connected story questions about background, earlier causes, duration, reactions and the ending.
- Create a two-person mix-up with different points of view; retell what each person knew and had done before explaining the misunderstanding.
Support and extension
Help learners choose tense by time and narrative purpose. Do not require past perfect for every earlier event or treat when and while as automatic tense switches.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
