Before the lesson
Use the single learner page in pairs. Personal or invented responses can vary; there is no fixed answer key.
- Identify the later reference point in the missed-connection exchange and the earlier waiting and missed connection.
- Discuss relief, deadlines, tiredness and preparation; connect each earlier event or activity to the later situation.
- Describe a difficult day starting when a problem was noticed; explain what had happened and what had been happening, then let a partner retell it.
Support and extension
Draw a two-point timeline. Keep states such as known in the simple form; accept an earlier activity in either aspect when the speaker's focus makes sense.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
