Before the lesson
Use the two model conversations and key-phrase lists on the single learner page; the final prompts are open-ended and need no fixed answer key.
- Read the film dialogue and map the broken hose, urgent return home and temporary inability to use the machine.
- Trace the closed-road example from pipe problem to longer bus journey and the train alternative.
- Create a prompt-based explanation with two key phrases and a follow-up about what happens next.
Support and extension
Offer cause/effect/solution notes. Extend by distinguishing because plus a clause from because of plus a noun phrase.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
