Before the lesson
Use both pages. Read the two model conversations before distributing the paired role cards; partners should see only their own instructions.
- Read the plan and nervous-patient models; identify the written estimate request and agreed pause signal.
- Practise comparing fictional Plan A/Plan B, calling about discomfort and requesting explanations before a procedure.
- Confirm how questions will be answered, what the estimate includes and how a pause can be requested.
Support and extension
Keep Plan A and Plan B abstract rather than inventing procedures. Offer question stems. No dental diagnoses, medicine advice or promises of painless treatment; a clinical concern belongs with the dental team.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
