Before the lesson
Use the single learner page in pairs. Personal or invented responses can vary; there is no fixed answer key.
- Locate where and if in the workshop exchange and compare the questions with their direct versions.
- Use the personal prompts for polite enquiries, then practise the host, bus, library, ticket and restaurant situations.
- Act as a visitor asking two wh-questions and one yes/no question; change location and swap roles.
Support and extension
Provide Could you tell me where…? and Do you know if…? frames. Remove embedded do/does/did; a polite opening alone does not require past-tense backshift.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
