Before the lesson
Use the single learner page in pairs. Personal or invented answers can vary; there is no fixed answer key.
- Read the concert departure and identify the ongoing situation and event.
- Ask about eight last night, journeys, calls and arrivals; extend answers with What happened next?
- Tell a plan-interrupted-by-surprise story and explain what you did instead.
Support and extension
Invented events are welcome. Help learners establish a past moment before describing background; check meaning rather than assuming every when clause needs a continuous tense.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
