Before the lesson
Use the single learner page in pairs. Personal or invented responses can vary; there is no fixed answer key.
- Use named Maya to show that the relative clause adds information rather than identifying which person.
- Describe a named friend, hometown and admired person; explore whose, where and which in the cafe and colleague prompts.
- Introduce three named people or places to a visitor, adding relevant details and inviting follow-up questions.
Support and extension
Use pauses in speech and commas in writing. Non-defining clauses do not use that or omit the relative pronoun; which can also comment on a whole preceding event.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
