Before the lesson
Use the single learner page in pairs. Personal or invented responses can vary; there is no fixed answer key.
- Identify the missed-bus mistake and unused chance to call in the opening exchange.
- Discuss preparation, research and asking for help; phrase feedback tactfully for the interview, budget and group-work situations.
- Review a fictional event with one mistake, two unused options and two practical improvements for next time.
Support and extension
Contrast should have/shouldn't have with could have for an unused option. Could have can also express uncertainty in other contexts, so ask what the speaker means.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
