Before the lesson
Keep the page-2 answers for feedback. Start by establishing whether a visit is complete or the person remains away.
- Compare Josh absent at the supermarket with Josh home after shopping. Highlight back now, not here, twice and never as meaning clues.
- Complete the twelve gaps and explain the person's situation, including gone home without to.
- Write the four full sentences with have/has, been to/gone to, question order and natural articles such as the dentist or the shops. Check meaning against the key while allowing correct wording variations.
Support and extension
Support with a home/away journey sketch. Extend by making a two-line update showing an absence followed by a completed visit; gone need not mean the journey has already reached its destination.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
