A simple way to teach it

Before the lesson

Give learners page 1 and keep the page 2 answer key separate. Its question forms are targets; personal answers are models, not required wording.

  1. Mark the starting point and three-year duration in the neighbour example.
  2. Complete A's home, English-study, childhood interest and friendship questions, choosing for or since from the cues.
  3. Reorder B's phone ownership, residence and course-change questions; interview a partner and add a detail about change or continuity.

Support and extension

Accept have lived or have been living in Part A, question 1 with a suitable answer. Known stays simple; for introduces duration and since introduces a starting point, including a past-tense clause.

Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
