A simple way to teach it

Before the lesson

Give learners page 1 and keep the page 2 answer key separate. Its question forms are targets; personal answers are models, not required wording.

  1. Identify have been planning and have been comparing in the travel example.
  2. Complete A's learning, exercise, English-study and reading questions using the activity cues; add a detail about progress or purpose.
  3. Reorder B's watching, sleeping and project-duration questions, then ask a partner one follow-up about their recent activity.

Support and extension

Provide have/has been + -ing as a form scaffold. Simple alternatives can express a different grammatical focus; explain the activity cue instead of claiming that every simple version is impossible.

Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
