Before the lesson
Separate cards 1A and 1B. Clarify underestimated and unfair assumption; offer fictional examples for personal questions.
- Partners ask the questions in turn, developing an answer with a specific example and a qualification.
- Follow up on advice or assumptions by asking what would make the same response useful in one context but unhelpful in another.
- Revisit a prediction about the next decade and distinguish a plausible explanation from certainty.
Support and extension
Support with reflective opening phrases; extend by paraphrasing a partner's position before questioning it. Learners need not disclose life-changing events. These prompts have no correct-opinion key.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
