Before the lesson
Separate cards 3A and 3B. Preview public service and reliable source; let learners frame success or future challenges hypothetically.
- Ask the ten questions in turn, distinguishing a personal preference from a broader claim about how people decide.
- Link news attention with reliability and advertising influence. Ask what evidence would support a claim without assuming current-news expertise.
- Conclude with a secure-versus-risky choice, identifying the circumstances that could change the recommendation.
Support and extension
Provide qualification and concession phrases as support. Extend by comparing two definitions of value, such as money and time. No disclosure of spending or major personal decisions is required; there is no fixed key.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
