Before the lesson
Give partners cards 4A and 4B. Clarify sustainability and limited resources; use imagined civic dilemmas rather than personal legal situations.
- Develop answers with a principle and an example, distinguishing legal questions from a person's sense of justice.
- Link responsibilities of successful people with resource fairness, and acceptable risk with convenience and sustainability.
- Conclude by comparing definitions of progress and asking which groups or outcomes each definition may leave out.
Support and extension
Support with a specific hypothetical community. Extend by reconciling competing principles or stating a boundary to a claim. This is language discussion, not legal advice; no fixed answer key applies.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
