Before the lesson
Use the single learner page in pairs. Personal or invented responses can vary; there is no fixed answer key.
- Expand people waiting and a desk marked Information into full relative clauses to reveal active and passive meanings.
- Discuss visitors, messages, products and displayed information; use the picture and journey prompts to identify exactly who or what is meant.
- Describe a busy station or market so a partner can find the correct person or object from active and passive clues.
Support and extension
Support -ing for active descriptions and past participles for passive ones. Check the time and meaning by expansion; do not mechanically shorten every relative clause.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
