A simple way to teach it

Before the lesson

Use the single learner page in pairs. Personal or invented responses can vary; there is no fixed answer key.

  1. Identify the organiser's original questions about homes and lifts in the opening exchange.
  2. Work through questions learners have heard, then report the host, visitor, Jo and Ben prompts. Jo's tomorrow question is reported the next day.
  3. Interview a partner with one wh-question and one yes/no question; report both questions and answers to another pair.

Support and extension

Provide asked where… and asked if/whether… frames. Remove do/does/did when forming the reported clause; adjust time expressions only when the reporting context requires it.

Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
