Before the lesson
Use the single learner page in pairs. Personal or invented responses can vary; there is no fixed answer key.
- Use Mia's message to track changes in speaker, pronouns and the reporting time.
- Discuss the recent news and plans prompts; report the quoted messages about lateness, keys, food and music before responding.
- Finish as meal organisers: relay two friends' messages and adjust the meal to their needs.
Support and extension
Model said + clause and told + person + clause. Backshift is common, but present forms can remain appropriate when information is still true.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
